The party arrives to the entrance of the Village of Forstshire. It is miday and dark. The moon shines slightly in the sky. A light rain starts and gradually works itself into a full on downpour. The few villagers who are seen in the village are running to get cover from the storm.
Embergrim suggests they head to the village's church to seek shelter from the storm. Robert decides to head to the tavern/inn instead (He orders 5 butter beers and once he learns they are non-alcoholic, he begins to order ale. The ale is non-alcoholic as well).
The others find the church in disrepair and the front door locked. Knocks at the door are met with "Go Away!!! I have told you a thousand times. Go Away!!" Despite the party's efforts they are unable to gain access to the Church. The decision is made to head to the tavern/inn to meet up with Robert. Rawlu prefers to hide in some bushes nearby. Aukan remains at the church to search for Rawlu.
The tavern goes quiet when the non-humans enter. Embergrim approaches the inn keeper and gives him some gold for food and drink for the party. Present in the tavern are a half a dozen or so humans (appearing to be locals). At a corner table is an elf sitting alone. A dwarf and human sit at another table carrying on a conversation. Aukan and Rawlu arrive a little while later.
The party learns the following in the tavern:
The dwarf is a traveling merchant from Kirshneck. Aukan does not recognize him. He is meeting with Jeremy Jeffcoate the owner of the village's general store.
The Durst farm and lighthouse have been abandoned for hundreds of years. Francis Durst owned 9 or 10 lighthouses around Isigoth Bay. Upon his death he left 1 to each of his sons.
Donovich, the village vicar recently learned of the death of his son and has locked himself inside the church. It has been about a week.
The Mayor of Forstshire is visiting his brother in Birmania. Robert decides to meet with the Deputy Mayor, Miles Braxton. Robert explains to Braxton what happened at the farm. Braxton does not believe Robert and tells him get proof. He also mentions that Uther Vanderslain has been dead for 5 years. Robert returns to the tavern.
Gungax decides he is going to return to the farm. Rawlu feels the goblin may get into trouble and decides to travel with him to back him up.
A mysterious human enters the tavern. He is wearing all black and has a sword and wooden stakes strapped to his back. Aukan speaks with him and learns that he is tracking a vampire.
Embergrim, Glacio, and Robert return to the church to see if they can console Donovich and get him to open the door. Their attempts at the front door do not make any progress. Glacio tries his best to pursade him to open the door. (The dice were not his friend). Embergrim moves around to the side of the church and finds another door. This one is locked as well but he manages to forcefully open it. The inside of the church looks worse than the outside. Donovich is kneeling at the alter praying. He is oblivious to Embergrim.
Through the wood floor, Embergrim hears, "Father! I'm starving!" Embergrim calls to Robert and Glacio to enter through the side. Glacio and Robert try to get more information from Donovich but he state of shock is overwhelming. Embergrim begins searching for a way into the basement and finds a trapdoor in the church's office. The door is barred with a chain and pad lock. Embergrim breaks the chain with his sword and descends the 8 foot or so ladder to the basement. He sees a figure in the back corner and approaches. The figure (a pale human with long fingernails and sharp teeth) lashes out at Embergrim inflicting some damage with its claws. Embergrim calls to Glacio and Robert for assistance and counter attacks the creature. The trio of heroes proceed to engage the creature but after a while, Robert traps creature by conjuring some metal bars. The group retreats up the ladder and closes the trap door and secures it with some furniture just as the creature breaks through the conjured bars.
Donovich recovers from his shock and tells the group that the creature below is what is left of his son Doru. He has prayed for days to come up with a way to return his son to normal but has not been answered. After some debate, the group decides that the creature must be destroyed. At this point Aukan arrives and learns of the vampire downstairs. He leaves to fetch Slade.
During their trip, Rawlu and Gungax decide to turn back to the village.
Aukan returns to the church with Slade and Rawlu arrives as well. Gungax heads to Braxton's house to tell him that a vampire-zombie is in the church (how did he known that? have toi check Volo's guide. Do goblins read minds?). Braxton grabs his coat to head to the church. Gungax darts over there first. News is spreading in the village and the locals are amassing outside with primitive weapons. (Someone mentioned pitchforks and torches).
The party ready's for the fight. Rawlu, thinking that his religious new friends (Embergrim and Glacio) were trying to help the vampire, attacks Slade. Slade is badly wounded and runs away. Aukan sees this and attacks Rawlu. The two take it outside while the rest of the party prepares to go downstairs. Robert, Embergrim, Glacio, and Gungax, head downstairs to battle Doru. Swords swing, bolts of fire stream across the room, arrows fly, and maces pound away at Doru. He feeble attempts hit the heavily armored members of the party cause him to swirch his attention to Gungax. While engaged with Gungax, Embergrim swings with his great sword and decapitates Doru. (While all this is going on, something about double 20s is heard outside and the rocks out there appeared to be very slippery).
The party emerges from the church to see the crowd that has formed. Braxton approaches the party and thanks them for taking care of the vampire. He asks them to investigate the Durst Farm and Lighthouse for information on what is going on there. The party is now considered heroes in the eyes of the village. This opened the door for new information available to the party. The party learned more information about the Durst Farm and the history of the family. They also learned that Armand Kelter
GM Notes: I was surprised by the direction this session went. I was expecting different decsions by the party. I thought they would head to the inn first which would have probably led to an entirely different session. I was glad the party followed their own path and I think it led to a succesful session. There was a little foolishness going on and some misunderstandings by some of the party members. All in all the group had fun and some party memebers may find that they made enemies that they will come to regret later on.
