The characters awake in a 30 ' x 25' room behind a large metal cage like wall with a sturdy locked gate. In the dim light of an oil lamp they begin to get their bearings and try to figure out what happened and how they got here. (Before the start of the adventure, each player was given a short recap of the last thing they remember before waking.) In addition to the characters, there are 3 other individuals held in the cage. An old dwarf, a large half-orc, and a slender human, all male. The human has a large scar on the right side of his face.
Embergrim – Immediately checks his person for his weapons and other gear. As with the other characters, he is dressed only in the clothes he was wearing at the time of his abduction. His other gear is missing.
Glacvio – Upon waking and noticing he is being held captive has a minor panic attack and uses his Dragonborn abilities to try and freeze open the lock. His attempts are unsuccessful.
Gungax – A small goblin attempts to open the lock by sticking his finger in the keyhole and only succeeds in getting some dirt and grease from the lock on his finger. He also tries to cast a spell but nothing happens.
Robert – Sits in a corner and softly mutters to himself something incoherent to the rest of the group.
Aukan – Stays kneeling/sitting as he is vastly taller than the ceiling and unable to stand fully, even in the tallest portion of the area.
Rawlu – Awakes and takes in his surroundings. He appears focused on Robert and the other human in the area.
The human with the scar and the half-orc do not pay much attention to the group but the dwarf explains that the cage cannot be opened and multiple attempts were made before the groups arrival. When asked, the dwarf tells the group that he believes they are being held captive by a cult who are using the prisoners in some kind of ritual. He mentions an elf who was also a prisoner but was taken away a day or two ago.
After some time passes, the group heres voices coming from the stairway to the next floor down. "The master said it was time to retrieve them." Four "cultists" appear at from the stairway. One stands back and can be seen making hand gestures and whispering something. The group falls unconscious and when they awake, the dwarf, half-orc, and human are gone. The group begins discussing ways to get out of this situation when one of the "cultists" returns alone. He is no longer wearing his mask and his red robe is cut on his left arm and the area is soaked in blood.
GM Notes: As stated, each player received an index card with the last events they could remember prior to waking. None of the characters know each other before waking and the time locked up was used to describe characters and to start the party building process.
